Graphic Design Scholarships

Students in the graphic design concentration are eligible to apply for the Clarvit Design Scholarship and the Department of Art Van Crews Scholarship.

The Clarvit Design Scholarship

The Clarvit Design Scholarship provides funds to design concentration students who have achieved a high degree of merit. Art studio students may apply after they have been accepted into the design concentration. Current Clarvit Design Scholarship recipients may reapply for the award in subsequent years. Applications are due mid-April each year. The selection is competitive.

The Department of Art Van Crews Scholarship

The Department of Art Van Crews Jr. Scholarship is designated for a student who has been admitted into the design concentration. Current Van Crews Scholarship recipients may reapply for the award in subsequent years. Applications are due mid-April each year. The selection is competitive.

To apply for the Clarvit Design and Van Crews Scholarships, complete your application on Scholarship Universe. Applications will become available between March 25th (8 am)– April 15th (5 pm). You must login with your UMD directory ID to access the form.

Eligibility

Applicants for the Clarvit Design and Van Crews Scholarships must be art studio majors who have been accepted into the design concentration. The student must be of junior standing (minimum of 60 credits completed) and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (overall) and 3.5 (in art coursework).

How To Apply

To apply for the Clarvit Design and Van Crews Scholarships, complete the online application. Beginning Wednesday, April 19, 2023 (8 am) – April 28 (5 pm), a link to the application can be found here.

Applicants must submit the following:
1. A digital portfolio of 12-15 samples of design and art studio work.

2. Submit a concise 500-word essay that describes your graphic design aspirations. How will you apply your graphic design knowledge within a professional career? How will your work influence and affect the community in which you live?

3. Unofficial transcripts (please make sure these are clear and legible, a PDF file is best).

All applications will be reviewed in a timely manner. All candidates will be notified of their application status as promptly as possible.
