Quantum Intuition

Illustration of Quantum Intuition

Quantum Intuition

Art Wednesday, October 16, 2024 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm Parren J. Mitchell Art/Sociology Building, Clarvit Courtyard

The rules that describe how the universe works--called quantum mechanics--are notoriously counter-intuitive. This is because we don't grow up experiencing them. The goal of the Quantum Intuition project is to make quantum tangible. In this piece, the audience is invited to the quantum world, where they can realistically interact and perceive some of the key core concepts of quantum information science, including superposition, entanglement, and measurement. The key problem to solve is how to visualize non-local quantum mechanical phenomenon - which can grow exponentially with the number of quantum objects - in a way that provides useful insight and artistic experience to the audience. This work is supported by the UMD 2024 Quantum ArtsAMPlification Grant.
