2025 MFA Thesis Exhibitions
April 09, 2025

The 2025 MFA Thesis Exhibition Series features two exhibitions highlighting work by our talented MFA students who are graduating in 2025.
Ripple/cluster features work by MFA candidates Margaret Walker and Trevon Coleman. Memory, time, history, and archive are material in the layers of the worlds created by Walker and Coleman. The artists explore the collection of points-of-return in their own histories and image archives, inviting viewers to conduct their own way-finding. An in-person exhibition preview and reception will take place on Wednesday, April 16, 5-7pm. Free admission and open to the public from April 17th until May 1st.
Substitute Reality features work by MFA candidates Jill McCarthy Stauffer and Varvara Tokareva. Dystopian speculation stands alongside past visions of utopia to create a sense of the uncanny and surreal. Both artists investigate the role of technology in our perception of reality, the environment, and society. An in-person exhibition preview and reception will take place on Thursday, May 8th, 5-7pm. Free admission and open to the public from May 9th until May 23rd.
The 2025 MFA Thesis Exhibition Series is organized by the University of Maryland Art Gallery, in association with the Department of Art.
