Creative Placemaking Projects

In the creative placemaking studios and in communities, students and faculty engage in place-based projects in partnership with local creatives, culture bearers and knowledge keepers. We hope you'll this page regularly as we continue to build our project archive.

Long Branch

Long Branch, Maryland, 2012-2014: Ronit Eisenbach led a Creative Placemaking effort in the Long Branch neighborhood of Silver Spring. This project employed ephemeral art, dance, and design to celebrate Long Branch today and influence future. Two classes participated in the project: Out of Site: Public Art/Public Interest Design, Spring 2013 with Professor of Art John Ruppert; and Body/Space/Place: Site-Specific Dance, Spring 2014 with Professor of Dance Sharon Mansur. The Hall CP

 The Hall CP, Spring 2022: The mural project was sponsored by and is located in the outdoor dining area of The Hall CP, a unique, community-driven space where innovators, artists, entrepreneurs, and the community of College Park, Maryland can gather, dine, collaborate, and celebrate. Only Rain Down The Drain

Terrapin Row, Fall 2022: Students from Brandon J. Donahue's advanced painting class worked with the city of College Park and the College Park Arts Exchange to paint storm drains around the city. Each mural had the slogan, "Only Rain Down the Drain" to remind residents and the campus community to keep pollutants out of local waterways. Read more about the project in the Diamondback.
